Crowns

crowns

There are many benefits to having a crown placed on a tooth. Most commonly, Drs. Schild, Resnick and Sceppaguercio will recommend restoring the tooth with a crown in order to reduce the risk of having a tooth fracture with a large filling which is breaking down due to wear. If a tooth is already fractured then a root canal is most likely needed in addition to a crown.

To determine if you are in need of a crown, the tooth must first be evaluated both clinically and radiographically (X-ray). Depending on the location of the tooth in your mouth we will discuss if a porcelain fused to metal crown or an all-ceramic crown is the best option to restore the tooth.

Regardless of whether you choose a porcelain-fused or full-ceramic crown, the procedure is the same. Drs. Schild, Resnick or Sceppaguercio will remove a small portion of the tooth to make room for the crown to surround it. An impression will be made and sent to our lab, where a crown will be created to fit and function perfectly with the rest of your teeth. You’ll return to our Clifton dental office where the crown will be permanently adhered.

As with any procedure we perform at our office, if the crown is done by Dr. Schild, Dr. Resnick or Dr. Sceppaguercio, we stand by our work. As long as you visit our Clifton, NJ dental office for regular cleanings and checkups we will work with you to repair or replace your crown in the event that it fails.
